Finding Information in Bailey Library

Libraries can be mazes of information, and each one works a little differently.  Let this web page be your introduction to Bailey Library, but remember that librarians will be your best resource for accessing the treasure of information that lies in the middle of the maze!

Finding Books

Books are located on the second floor of Bailey and are arranged by decimal number.

Luckily you don’t have to wander around upstairs looking for books on a topic – use our online catalog first to find that essential call number!

Here are some hints on how to search it:

  • Keyword:  most flexible, most results
  • Subject:  more restrictive, categories, works like an index, idea farm.
  • Title:  more restrictive, have precise titles, works like an index.

Finding Journals/Magazines/Newspapers/Periodicals/Serials!

We subscribe to over 350 print journals (on the first floor of the library), and over 40,000 online journals!  Our Journals List on our website will let you know what journals we have both in the library in print form, and online in electronic form.

Finding Articles

Academic Search Complete (1887 - present)

Academic Search Complete provides citations and a lot of full text of articles (both popular and scholarly) in periodicals and newspapers.  Some hints:

  • First database listed on the “Find Articles” link.
  • Use AND to separate concepts.
  • Limit by date and/or full text (if you’re in a hurry!).
